As a commitment for promotion and advocacy of science and technology (S&T) for Philippine development, STAC - Japan's Pher Errol Quinay, Bryan Pajarito, Alvin Varquez, and Yellowbelle Duaqui, along with other Filipino professionals, had participated in the UP Best TECH Tournament 2010.
The team's entry to the tournament was entitled: Modular Extensive Green Roof - Rainwater Harvesting System for Flood Risk Management. The team had proposed the wide scale implementation of modular extensive green roof - rainwater harvesting system as a best practice for flood risk management. The proposed system was expected to provide several environmental, structural, and economic benefits such as: enhanced rainwater management, reduced urban island heat effects, air pollution control, thermal insulation of buildings, roof stability during typhoons, protection from solar radiation, source of potable water, and increased property marketability. Among the initial 18 teams enlisted to the tournament, the team's entry was chosen as one of the six finalists.
