A courtesy call was made to Consul General Sulpicio Confiado of the Philippine Embassy last February 18, 2010 at the Philippine Embassy, Roppongi, Tokyo.
The officers led by STAC-J President Pher Errol Quinay presented the main activities and plans of the organization for year 2010.
Before the details were presented, Mr. Quinay reiterated the primary objectives of the Science and Technology Advisory Council-Japan (STAC-J) which include the promotion of science and technology especially for Filipino students in Japan and the use of these human resources with their gained technical know-how as a tool for Philippine development.
The new STAC-J officers aim to increase the student network in Japan by identifying Filipino groups in different universities and by forging an agreement or any form of collaboration with these existing groups. This can be further enhanced by making the STAC-J website active again after a few years of stagnation. The organization being committed to increase its network works closely with the Philippines Assistance Group (PAG) and targets to gain membership this year.
As a major force behind students in Japan especially in the Tokyo area, STAC-J commits itself to improving the lives of its Filipino members by organizing fun activities aside from the usual academic gatherings. The organization plans to have hiking and other nature trips, bowling, indoor games and many more.
The current STAC-J officers are bound together by the organization’s ideals. The officers are one in supporting a cause for nation-building by promoting academic excellence among its members and yet cultivating a genuine heart ready to provide genuine services to those in dire need.
